LA’s new homeless shelters created under the Mayor’s A Bridge Home program are surrounded by “Special Enforcement Zones” (SECZs) where LAPD aggressively police houseless neighbors who couldn’t get inside. This is a cruel, costly practice. It harms people without housing, it doesn’t solve anything for the neighborhood and it’s a big expense for the city. If city leaders are truly committed to reimagining public safety and an unarmed response to non-violent calls, they must abolish the punitive SECZs. Struggling Angelenos need #HomesNotZones!

Unfortunately, this week City Council will be voting on a motion to resume sweeps in these zones — in violation of CDC guidelines. Mark your calendar to call in to City Council on Wednesday, July 29 to 1.) Make a general public comment against these Special Enforcement Zones, and 2.) Make a comment opposing agenda item No. 46 — resuming sweeps in the zones. You’ll get one minute for each. RSVP here to receive complete talking points and a social media toolkit to apply pressure before the meeting.
