Over 25 members in good standing of DSA-LA have submitted a proposal for DSA-LA to pursue renting a Chapter office space. The DSA-LA Steering Committee has reviewed the proposal and concluded that because it requires a significant amount of chapter resources, and its topic is of interest to our members, it should be shared with membership for a chapter wide review and vote.
Members can submit proposed amendments and / or statements for or against this proposal, at the link HERE, between Friday, November 15th until midnight Saturday, December 7th. The voting period for this proposal will take place from Sunday, December 8th until 11:59 Sunday, December 15th.
The authors of the proposal will have time at our next Chapter branch meetings, this Saturday, November 16th, to present it to membership. Members have the opportunity to suggest amendments or voice opinions for and against the proposal at those branch meetings, on our shared Slack message board, and can also submit proposed amendments and / or statements for or against this proposal at the link HERE. We’ll accept suggested amendments and comments via the meetings and the form until midnight Saturday, December 7th.

The authors will consider all statements and proposed amendments and develop a final proposal, which will be emailed to membership for a vote on Sunday, December 8th, and voting will remain open for one week, until midnight Sunday, December 15th.
PROPOSAL FOR DSA-LA TO PURSUE RENTING A CHAPTER OFFICE SPACE:

WHEREAS, the privatization of public space in Los Angeles severely restricts the availability of free meeting space; and
WHEREAS, much of organizing within DSA Los Angeles requires many frequent small group meetings; and
WHEREAS, DSA-LA already dispenses over $500 in chapter funds per month to committees in order to secure meeting space to meet the bylaws requirement of one meeting per month;
WHEREAS, DSA-LA organizing would significantly benefit from a permanent, centralized storage space for chapter equipment and literature;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the general Membership of DSA Los Angeles instructs the Steering Committee of DSA-LA, in collaboration with the Finance and Fundraising Committee and general membership, to develop parameters for an appropriate office space, which considers feedback from the membership;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Steering Committee, in collaboration with the Finance and Fundraising Committee and general membership, research cost and availability of renting a permanent office space in the city of Los Angeles, with the goal of identifying possible office spaces for DSA-LA to rent; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that should the Steering Committee identify possible office space(s), the Steering Committee will return to the General Membership within two months of the passage of this resolution with a proposal of office space options be put to a membership-wide vote; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Steering Committee report back to general membership include a Treasurer’s report assessing the estimated effects of the proposed office space options on the chapter treasury and long-term financial health.
