Jacobin Radio & Beneath the Surface Live: Labor, Socialism, and the Struggle for Power

Recent victories like the strikes among LA teachers and Marriott hotel workers are promising signs for a labor movement that’s been on the defensive for decades. But why has US labor gotten so weak, and what would it take to turn things around?

Join DSA-LA for a discussion of these questions and more featuring sociologist and labor activist Barry Eidlin. His recent book, Labor and the Class Idea in the US and Canada, compares labor’s divergent fates in the two countries in order to shed light on the urgent problems facing workers today.

The event will be a live taping of the Jacobin Radio podcast and Beneath the Surface on KPFK, featuring host Suzi Weissman.
