Join the Art & Socialism study group for a viewing and discussion of the wonderfully bizarre film Sorry to Bother You. Since its release to critical acclaim in 2018, Boots Riley's debut has become well-loved in leftist circles. What is it that makes the film effective on the level of both art and politics? Why is it that the film made such massive waves upon its release, not just among activists but in the mainstream too?
Our discussion will ask these and other questions and, hopefully, broader ones about the role of film and art in radical social change. As supplementary reading we are suggesting the article "The Radical Irreal: Notes On Sorry to Bother You," from Red Wedge, issue six, fall 2018.
