Open Ballot

New Article. Voting Protocol

All decisions made by a membership vote within the chapter, including those within Local Subgroups, shall be conducted by open ballot. Secret ballot votes shall be henceforth prohibited. Voting records of all members in chapter-wide or Local Subgroup votes shall be freely available to all members. In accordance with the DSA National Constitution Article V. Section 6, the sole exception to this shall be votes for delegates to the National Convention.

Article VII. Local Officer Elections

Section 2. Elections

Election for Local Officers shall be held with voting closing at least two weeks prior to the end of the previous Officers’ terms. Elections shall be run by open ballot. If a position is uncontested, the nominee will be declared elected by acclamation.

JUSTIFICATION AND ORGANIZATIONAL PRIORITY ALIGNED WITH PROPOSED AMENDMENT

Whereas the organizational priorities of the chapter include:

  1. Maintain transparent decision-making processes which allows all members to democratically shape and engage in chapter decisions
  2. Commit to accountability and transparency for leadership in DSA-LA

and given that socialist organizations have a political obligation to foster and elevate a culture of vibrant internal democracy where debate is transparent and positions are openly clarified and accessible to all members.
